yo! the name's Melanie and i happen to be 17
the checking of the mail was always the worst part of Julie's day. another bill, another warning on whatever she was late paying for this month. dressed in a big t shirt, one big enough to be a dress, she walked to the tiny golden mailbox outside her door. three envelopes addressed to julie moreno were neatly placed in the mail box. wonderful. this was just great. she let a sigh out of her lips and ran a pale hand through her hair.
her minimum wage job just wasn't cutting it anymore. she needed something with her life, something besides checking people out at walmart like she was doing now. she needed something that would actually pay her bills one month. all she wanted was just one month when she didn't worry about what she was going to do for food, or if she would have the money to keep everything in her house running, or just be able to pay the rent on time for once.
she walked back into her tiny two room apartment, setting the envelopes on her table next to her old laptop. as soon as she sat down, an IM popped up on her screen. Noah. of course.. why hadn't she thought of it before? he had offered her a job at his club. he said they made money there. good money. she really didn't want to be a high class hooker, but what else could she do? find another apartment? yeah right. that'd be a wonder task.
she didn't reply to his IM just yet. she wanted to see what bills she had to pay now. she opened the first one. car payment. the car that was sitting in her driveway, out of gas. she set that one down and picked up the second envelope. a rent notice. she had weeks to pay the rest of her rent for this month or she was out. that was wonderful. just great. she set that one down, the frown noticeable on her lips. and finally the last one. she tore the envelope open, holding her breath. junk mail. thank god. one less thing to worry about.
she turned back to her computer, resting her fingers on the keys. she wasn't really to sure how to word this. she started typing, then decided against it. finally, she got the courage and typed 'can you meet up with me? i have a business offer.' she was almost positive she knew what he meant. he agreed, and she told him to meet her at starbucks and signed off. she spun around in her chair for a moment, thinking. she was really doing this. the thing she had just said earlier she could never do.
she stood up after a few moments, walking to the tiny bathroom in her bedroom. if you could even consider it a bathroom. she took a quick shower, letting the water run over her body, washing away all the toxins from her skin. after 20 minutes of showering, she got out and wrapped a towel around her body. she combed through her hair, tugging at the knots. she knew it was pointless. her unruly hair would be knotty again as soon as it dried.
she walked to her closet, slipping on a pair of black underwear, and a matching black bra. she flipped through her crowed closet, deciding what to wear. for being poor, the girl sure had a crap load of clothes. she didn't even remember how half of them had gotten into her closet. she had everything from chanel to walmart.
this particular day, she picked out a black tank top dress. she slipped it on, examining herself in the mirror. she thought it looked alright, plus she had to get going. she dug around until she found the coat she was looking for, a longish, white coat that looked knitted. it was about the same length as the dress. after deciding on her outfit, she made her way to her dresser. she picked up a fake pearl necklace with one of those clocks you saw old men carrying attached to the bottom of it. she slipped on the first pair of shoes she saw, a pair of old converse.
she grabbed her bag, putting a pair of sunglasses in it just in case it was really sunny. she dug around in her bag for her key chain. the last thing she could afford was someone breaking in and stealing the things she had. she walked out the door, closing and locking it behind her. she started on the short walk to starbucks, her mind elsewhere.
before she knew it, she was outside of the coffee house, the smell of coffee and baked goods filling her nose. yummy. she opened the door, the smell wasn't concentrated anymore and it was making her crave coffee. what would three dollars hurt? she walked to the counter, and ordered a latte. it was her favorite coffee beverage. after paying, mostly in change, she moved to the side to wait for her order. once it was placed on the counter in front of her, she picked it up and walked to a corner table to wait for Noah. wonderful, waiting time.
NOTE: my posts aren't ALWAYS that long. thats just the only one i have handy :x
